Waiouru is close to Mt Ruapehu and the Great Lake Taupō, so if you are active and into skiing, mountain-biking, tramping, hunting, boating, fishing and the great outdoors of Aotearoa – it’s all right here on our doorstep.
We are located on SH1 in the central North Island serving a strong community of families drawn from service-oriented military personnel, civilian workers and contractors; and farm support service businesses and workers, all of whom are actively involved in the life of the school.
This is a genuine, fantastic career opportunity in a unique, financially sound and well-resourced school, stable teaching and support staff, and within a relatively new modern school build of both shared and single-cell classroom learning environments.
We have a strong child-centred pedagogy, a clear PB4L process and practice, an established play-based learning approach for juniors and a more structured programme for our senior students.
Our current motto ‘Ekea tō tāpuhipuhi – Climb to the highest peak, strive for success’ sum us up well. Additionally, we also enjoy a special relationship with the National Army Museum, and the Zealand Army Marae is our home for many of our special occasions.
We seek an innovative teacher and pedagogical leader with great interpersonal skills, positive dispositions and sound curriculum knowledge to lead our dedicated team of support and teaching staff. You will be community-minded, culturally responsive, adaptable, resilient, willing to embrace change and have high expectations of yourself and of all of our tamariki and our staff.
This position would equally suit a senior teacher/AP/DP looking for their first-time principal career move, or existing U1–U2 principals looking for career progression. School housing is available.
Job starts term 4, Monday October 6, 2025 or term 1, Monday January 26, 2026 (by negotiation).
